Easter Vigil/Easter Sunday

The Easter Vigil, celebrated on Holy Saturday night at 8pm, is the most solemn and joyful liturgy of the Church year, marking the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is the first celebration of Easter and is rich in symbolism, scripture, and sacramental rites.

Key Elements of the Easter Vigil:

The Service of Light – The liturgy begins in darkness, symbolizing the world before Christ’s Resurrection. A new Paschal Candle is lit from a sacred fire, and the flame spreads among the congregation, representing Christ as the Light of the World.
The Liturgy of the Word – Several readings from the Old and New Testaments recount salvation history, from Creation to Christ’s victory over death.
The Baptismal Liturgy – Catechumens (those preparing to enter the Church) receive Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist, symbolizing new life in Christ. The faithful also renew their baptismal promises.
The Liturgy of the Eucharist – The Mass reaches its climax as the Resurrection is proclaimed, and the faithful receive the Eucharist in the joy of Easter.

Masses are as normal on Easter Sunday at 9am and 11am. They have a sense of great joy as we celebrate Christ’s resurrection after many weeks of preparation in Lent.
